Day 4 Part 1 - 1880's Town

Day 4 started out at the 1880's Town in South Dakota.  When we read about this place, we actually changed the timeline of our trip in order to do this.  Katie has been begging us to get an old fashioned picture taken for awhile now and we knew she would love this.  This is what 1880's Town is all about:

Walk down Main Street of this 1880 town and explore more than 30 buildings authentically furnished with thousands of relics. Enjoy the rolling terrain of a sprawling homestead and envision life on the prairie. While at the 1880 town, you can also view memorabilia from the late Casey Tibbs, a champion rodeo bronc rider, and many props that were used in filming the movie "Dances with Wolves".

The buildings in the town were authentic from the time period and had been moved here for touring.  As soon as you walked through the gate, you felt like you were in an authentic town in the 1880's.

As soon as we arrived, we headed to the Saloon where we rented costumes.  Katie was so excited to pick out her dress.  Of course she had to pick out something a showgirl would wear.  Jack loved dressing up as a cowboy and Sam picked out a bandino costume.  Everyone looked great.

I have attached many pictures as there were so many that turned out great I just couldn't decide.  Hopefully you won't get bored looking at them.

Jack shot and killed his Daddy and Grace is crying and upset.

Jack robbed the bank of all its gold.

Now Jack is dead and Grace is crying again.

As you can see, everyone really got into playing the part.

Grace is checking into the hotel.

Katie does this face well.

JAILTIME FOR EVERYONE!!!!

Next off we saw the hospital.  Note the blood on the table.  Lots of "ews" from the kids on that one.

They also had a general store which had some really neat antiques.

And finally, Jack got picked to be in the show. He was raising his hand to volunteer and was so excited to go up on stage. We were cracking up. Especially when they put the beard on him.

Next we were headed to the Badlands.  I'll post about that next.  Thanks for following us in our adventures.

  1. I just love this - wish I was there with you - this would have been my kind of spot. You all look great and also look like you are having a wonderful time. You all look great in those costumes. Love, Grandma

PS: Was that sasparilla that Gracie and Katie were drinking or whiskey?
